We walked from New Cross to Peckham and ended up at Peckham Library. In the area in front of the library there is a small gallery called Peckham Space and they had these amazing installation called the Peckham Peace Wall. It had been commissioned to mark "One Year On" from the riots last year and consisted of a vast wall covered in "post it notes" on which were written people's thoughts and feeling about Peckham in relation to the rioting. The messages were written very soon after the event and you can tell the thoughts were very raw. The whole thing was really moving actually and had a powerful community feel. I could have spent hours reading them all. Jonah was born on the day of the riots so that time has a real mix of emotions in my memory, such joy and real fear on the same day...
The gallery were also doing a live project where they were trying to recreate the wall as a felt patchwork blanket to hang permanently in the library opposite. So they were inviting people to embroider a square to add to the main piece. So I did!
